PEMPHIGUS FOLIACEUS IN AN ELDERLY PATIENT

Pemphigus foliaceus is a rare, autoimmune, bullous disease caused by Ig G4 antibodies directed against
desmoglein 1 (Dsg-1).
We present the case of a 80 year-old male patient who came to our clinic for a polymorphous eruption, formed by
erythematous-squamous plaques on the face and scalp, crusty erosions on the anterior and posterior thorax. Based on the clinical appearance, histopathological examination, direct immunofluorescence and ELISA anti Dsg-1 antibodies a diagnosis of pemphigus foliaceus was established. Due to the systemic and topical treatment with corticoids the evolution was good.
